ILLUSTRATED TALKS 2008-2009

Meetings are held on Mondays at 7-30pm in the Cecil Roberts Room at the County Library, Angel Row, Nottingham (see location map and street map), unless otherwise stated. Admission for members is free. Non-members, who are most welcome, are asked to make a small donation to NIAS to cover meeting expenses.

Monday 20th October 2008 : Lace, Slums and the Occasional Riot

Chris Weir, one of our local archivists, will talk about the making of Victorian Nottingham

Tuesday 18th November 2008 : Robert Blincoe - Nottinghamshire's Oliver Twist

Peter Hammond will tell the heart-rending tale of a young apprentice boy in a Nottinghamshire mill two hundred years ago.

Monday 8th December 2008 : Christmas Social

Come along to this popular event, with entertainment from the Attenborough Handbell Ringers, good food, and our special Industrial Archaeology Quiz. The venue this time will be St. Mary's Church, Attenborough. Admission by ticket only, price £6-00.

Monday 19th January 2009 : The Raleigh Archives
This meeting takes place at the Nottinghamshire Archives on Castle Meadow Road and will commence at 7.00pm. Free parking is available

Our speaker is the archivist, Alexa Rees. The event will include a tour of the Archive office as well as a look at some of the Raleigh archives.

Monday 2nd February 2009 to Friday 13th February 2009: Community Excavation at Wharf Green, Jacksdale

Geoff Pike, a former director, will tell us the fascinating history of this famous local electrical company..

Monday 17th March 2008 : Annual General Meeting

The AGM will be followed by a nostalgic look at the achievements of the Nottinghamshire Industrial Archaeology Society over the past 33 years.
