The version of the OFTEL Specified Numbering Scheme issued 24 July 2000 paves the way for yet another round of number changes, this time affecting the South West of England.
This follows the recent similar exercises for East Anglia and for South East of England and the Thames Valley. It looks as if Oftel are slowly working their way around the country.
However, no formal announcements have yet been made regarding this renumbering, and OFTEL have indicated that no changes will take place without public consulation, so please do not assume that that renumbering will take place as indicated, or, indeed, at all.
It looks as if, in a number of cases, digits have been allocated for each group to migrate independently to 8-figure, and also for adjacent groups to be combined with the same prefix. These "duplications" are indicated by "*" in the list below.
